A Weekend in Kyoto: Itinerary and Tips

Back to Blog

Kyoto, with its thousands of temples, traditional wooden houses, and beautiful gardens, is the cultural heart of Japan. Here is how to spend a perfect weekend in this enchanting city.

Day 1: The Eastern Mountains

Start early at the iconic Kiyomizu-dera temple, offering stunning views over the city. Wander down through the preserved historic streets of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka. In the afternoon, visit the silver pavilion of Ginkaku-ji and walk the peaceful Philosopher's Path.

Day 2: Bamboo and Golden Pavilions

Head west to Arashiyama early in the morning to walk through the famous Bamboo Grove before the crowds arrive. Later, visit Kinkaku-ji, the breathtaking Golden Pavilion, whose reflection shimmers in the surrounding pond.

Evening Tips

Don't miss a walk through Pontocho Alley at dusk. This narrow alley is packed with traditional restaurants and teahouses, and you might even spot a geisha hurrying to her appointments.
